The part of Romans 8 that may be most comforting and inspiring begins in verse 31 and continues to the end of this magnificent chapter.
We may look at our sin as debilitating, but because of the blood of Jesus we are completely forgiven and no longer condemned by God. So, “If God is for us, who is against us?” We have His blessing on our lives, not because of our own righteousness, but because of His grace and love. He is on our side. He is fighting our battles. He is winning our war. He is defending us against all accusations.
Some worry because of past actions. We might be afraid to take a stand now, because we know that others know things about us. We don’t want to be embarrassed by our past coming back to haunt us. We don’t want to hurt the cause of Christ by having our past sins brought out into the open. This is wrong thinking. God is for us. He knows and He has forgiven. Even if someone want to continue to hold that against us, God does not.
v. 33. He is the one who justifies.
v. 34. Christ Jesus is the One who died… and intercedes for us.
So go on with your life in Christ. Don’t live in fear or guilt. Don’t be stifled by those who doubt or those who remember. Once you have repented and received forgiveness, you are not condemned by the only one who counts. Remember, NOTHING can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
